Inclement Weather Procedures

Severe Weather Closures or Delays

GVA Aurora will follow Aurora Public Schools Weather Closures and Delayed Start schedules. If GVA-A closes or delays start times due to weather or other safety concerns, announcements will be made:
  • on local television and radio stations
  • on the GVA Aurora website
  • on Facebook, Reachwell
  • and sent to parent/guardian phones via Infinite Campus robocalls

When inclement weather hits during the day, GVA-A Administration will determine how the weather will impact the school day. Please update your contact information to ensure you receive a notification.

Delayed Start Times

Should APS make the decision to delay school, the school day would begin two hours later than normal (classes would begin at 10:00 AM). Staff members are expected to arrive at school by 9:30 AM, ensuring their safe arrival.

Dismissal times at the end of the school day will remain the same. Some class schedules may be affected by the delayed start.

For before-school care/after-school care, please contact your care provider.
Innovation Learning (720.390.2820 or 720.799.7210).

Our top priority is to keep students and staff as safe as possible.

Please note: A delayed start does not change regular dismissal times or pick-up times at the end of the school day. Please contact the school to receive information for all After-school programming.

Assessing Inclement Weather
An assessment is normally completed by 5:30 am.
  • This is done physically to experience the driving conditions in the district firsthand.
Indoor Pick Up
Indoor pickup occurs when the weather is too wet or cold to wait for parents outside.
  • Proceed through the normal pick-up line.
  • Students are seated inside, names are written down, and students are called and escorted out to their cars.
  • Typically, the West Campus will be an outdoor pickup for at least the first 10 minutes.
