On Thursday, November 7, the 8th-grade students had the opportunity to hear from a Sudanese refugee, Mohamed Juma.
He told us the story of his life in Sudan, the civil war that drove his country apart, and the family-splitting flee for his life. He regaled the students and staff with pictures from his camp, his family, and his journey to the US as a refugee.
We are very grateful for his courage and his willingness to share his tale, as we wrapped up our study of Alan Gratz's book, Refugee. It certainly helped bring those characters' journeys to life.
