From the Executive Principal

Summer can be the best time of the year to spend quality time with family and friends and forget about school for a while. However, I also hope that you are doing some daily reading to keep your most important organ exercised, your brain. Brain research shows that reading is one of the best ways to build neuro-pathways that are vital to the development of adolescent brain growth. As a matter of fact, a study was done on middle school students and summer reading. What it found was that students who did not read over the summer were 2-3 weeks behind their peers come September. That means it takes a student who does not read over the summer 2-3 weeks to catch up to their peers who did read over the summer, putting them at a significant academic disadvantage starting off the school year. So everyone (K-8) please grab some great books and read this summer.

 

A list of general school supplies will be listed on our website by July 1, 2019. Your students will get a more detailed list of supplies (if needed) once school starts and they know what classes they are taking. All students will be enrolled in their core classes and a language village. In addition to the core classes (language arts, math, science and social studies) your student will have options of taking technology, physical education, art, drama, library, or music classes during the course of the years at GVA. We hope you are able to find the best quality supplies at the best prices with this advance notice.

 

We have a few important dates that we want you to know about this summer. Please put them on your calendar. Spanish translation services provided at each meeting.

 

 

Please choose a night and come visit with the administration about attending GVA. We have a lot of new changes coming in the 19-20 school year. This is the perfect arena to get your questions, comments, or even concerns answered. We want parents to truly be informed about the way GVA will be running to best serve your child.

 

Introducing: Middle School!

 

If your student is transitioning to the middle school building (4^th or 6^th Grade) and you want to ask how things will be set up for their grade level, this is your meeting! We have a lot of new students that will be moving from the East campus to the West campus and this will be the perfect morning or night to tour and ask your questions. We want you to understand the plan to keep everyone safe and orderly with having elementary students and middle school students together.

 

I am honored to be your new Executive and Middle School Principal. With Ms. Bea as the Executive Director of Immersion and the Elementary Schoo Principal, we will now be able to launch GVA Aurora into something very special for kids. Espero que este mensaje les llegue durante un buen comienzo en sus vacaciones de verano. Este puede ser la mejor época del año para pasar tiempo de calidad con la familia y los amigos y olvidarse de la escuela por un tiempo. Sin embargo, también espero que hagas una lectura diaria para mantener ejercitado tu órgano más importante, tu cerebro.
