This feature features members of the Colorado legislature as they address the importance of providing language education for the children of Colorado. It describes Global Village Academy’s role in establishing a roadmap that outlines the state’s plan for teaching world languages in order to help its future citizens attain a high level of language proficiency.

we are clearly living in a global Marketplace if Colorado is to maintain economic viability throughout 21st century we must have a Workforce that can compete in this market place but what is Colorado doing to prepare today students to participate in this new Global Community it's absolutely true that the United States did engage with the world now and it's easier to engage with the world using their language that it is depending on them to understand our language or languages is the best thing that we can do if for no other reason just basic economics because we're going to be infinitely more successful conducted by internet World stats indicated that only 27% of all the world's 2 billion internet users access the web in English leaving 73% of all internet users using a language other than English according to the National Committee for economic development our education system must be strengthened to increase the foreign language skill and cultural awareness of our students the educated American of the 21st century will need to be conversant with at least one language in addition to his or her native language and knowledgeable about other cultures although we should have strong language requirements foreign language requirements in our educational system in some cases we we don't wait the vast majority of schools that offer language instruction do so only a few hours per week Farley what is needed for a students to become proficient in a world language few elementary schools offer language instruction for our youngest students when they are most receptive to learning a new language following normal.
