GVA Seal of Biliteracy Award for 8th Grade Students
Your 8th-grade student has the opportunity to earn a GVA Seal of Biliteracy Pathway Award or a GVA Seal of Biliteracy Award!
The Awards are designed to
- Set a standard for high-level biliteracy attainment for students
- Reward engagement in pursuit of bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding
- Recognize students' hard work and a high level of language proficiency in two or more languages
- Encourage perseverance and dedication to bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding
GVA Seal of Biliteracy Pathway Award
The GVA Seal of Biliteracy Pathway Award is given to students on the path to biliteracy who complete the following requirements:
Immersion Language Projects
- A written essay, in English and their immersion language, on the importance of bilingualism.
- An oral presentation, in their immersion language, on a topic of the student’s choice
Community Service & Cultural Events
- 10 hours of documented community service or participating in cultural events.
GVA Seal of Biliteracy Award
The GVA Seal of Biliteracy Award is given to students who attain a high level of biliteracy and complete the following requirements:
- Student meets all the requirements for earning the GVA Seal of Biliteracy Pathway Award plus the assessment results.
Assessments
- English: iReady score of “Early on grade level” or “Mid or above Grade Level”
- Immersion Language: STAMP 4s-5 (Intermediate Low) score or higher
